The California Campaign Finance Database
The Center for Inclusive Democracy (CID) at the University of Southern California’s Sol Price School of Public Policy has created a database of campaign finance information at the local level in California. This publicly accessible online data hub serves as a resource for the examination of the representation of communities in how the campaigns of California’s local elected officials are financed.
Project Goals
Help build the field of campaign finance studies and reform. Reliable and accessible data is needed for research in the field of campaign finance reform. The lack of accessible data sets holds back the field, and conversely, the creation of new data sets can help research and understanding in this field grow significantly. The California Campaign Finance Database curates publicly reported campaign finance data in California, bringing it together in an accessible repository for use by researchers, advocates, media, and others.
Raise awareness for data reform. A significant obstacle to informing the public, advocates, and policy makers about possible influence in campaign expenditures is the lack of publicly accessible, consistent and accurate campaign data at the local level. A key goal of the California Campaign Finance Database is to raise awareness about the state of public campaign finance data and the need for transparency and accuracy in campaign finance disclosure and reporting.
Click on a location to view publicly available campaign finance contribution disclosure data that have been collected and processed by CID. Please note that the quality of these data is subject to the accuracy and timeliness of contribution disclosures made by candidates for public office in each jurisdiction. Check back weekly for the posting of data for additional California cities and counties. This database is a beta version and underdevelopment.
